What is Depression?

Depression is one of the most commonly diagnosed psychiatric disorders and is said to be increasing in number. 10% of society is said to experience depression at any one given time.

Depression is characterized by one in low spirits from loss of hope or courage. An extreme sadness felt over time followed by feelings of hopelessness and inadequacy.

How does a person get depressed?

Typically depression involves circumstances outside of the person that they feel they cannot control. Over time, the depressed person will lack interest in daily life or things they considered enjoyable, thus begin to show a lack energy and focus.

Sometimes internal issues may bring on depression. Some things could be: Pessimistic Depression

thinking, feeling inadequate, or simply the lack of work or action.

Typical feelings that a depressed person will experience:

  • feel sad/ profound sadness
  • anxiety
  • empty
  • hopeless
  • helpless
  • worthless
  • guilty
  • irritable
  • restless
  • lethargy
  • low self-esteem

What type of counseling is best for depression?

There are many reasons why a person becomes depressed, thus there are many ways that have been coping mechanisms developed to treat this. Some common therapy methods include talk therapy, which many psychologists use, or medication, which many psychiatrist’s use. We at Finally Alive Counseling Ministries believe that temperament therapy is the most effective way to deal with your depression.

Temperament therapy is going to look at the whole man and not just the problem or symptoms. When the whole person is healthy, the chances of illness, whether physical or mental, are extremely slim.
